The High Line
Maintained by the Friends of the High Line, non-profit caretakers, the High Line stands as a marker of history. Since 1934, the High Line served as a railroad, which later stopped running during the 1980s. By 1999, residents near the High Line advocated for renovation and reuse of the railroad as public space. With different sections released throughout the 2000s, finally, by September 21, 2014 the High Line had opened the entire structure to the public. Fun fact: The High Line partakes in sustainable practices, itself considered a green structure.
