Paris: Shakespeare and Company Bookshop and Café
Parisian bookshops fill pages with romance and visitors with heart-warming wistfulness. Shakespeare and Company, the hub of the Lost Generation in which Fitzgerald and Stein once gathered, is a still standing relic of the Left Bank. With English language novels, fiction A to Z, slanted shelves play home to the old classics and the new. Bob’s Food Etc. recently brewed up an adjoined café, and there is no more an endearing place to curl up with an espresso (green juices are available too) and A Moveable Feast like a blanketed bench in the poetry alcove or a nearby velvet chair. A bittersweet longing for yesteryear is soothed ever so slightly upon entering the charmingly crooked wooden front door.
