4. Get on a Bike.
I used to be totally into my bike. It was one of the greatest gifts I gave myself and allowed me to really enjoy a full NYC experience. And then it got stolen, which allowed me to experience a whole other kind of NYC experience. Regardless, I'm now 7 months pregnant, making it very difficult for me to justify my old bike rides around town. It was one of the hardest things I've had to give up (second only to martinis of course). Alas, bike riding is fun no matter where you are, but in NYC it is the absolute best. The absolute.best.
I don't care how you secure your bikes (if you stay at my husband's hotel "The Jane" you'll get to rent theirs free of charge), but get some bikes and spend the day riding around town. [Renting a Bike in NYC]
My favorites rides include:
- The Manhattan Bridge into DUMBO (stop on the water front for water and a view), circle down to the Brooklyn Bridge for an iconic view back into Manhattan (mind the tourists!).
- The West Side Highway Ride. I would always start on Jane St and head down to Battery Park. Here's a tip (esp if you are trying to woo your date), head down on the West Side Highway to Gigino's restaurant at Wagner Park. It is an amazing place to share a bottle of Rosé while watching the sun set over the Statue of Liberty. Just be careful riding home.
- Bike Lanes through Soho. Self explanatory. It's a whole new way to experience the neighborhood.
