The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess

The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess
First performed in 1935, this controversial work with songs by George Gershwin wasn't considered an opera until 1976, when it enjoyed an unexpected renaissance of critical attention. Now a celebrated classic of the stage,  this production stars four-time Tony Award winner Audra McDonald, Norm Lewis, and David Alan Grier, and features the now-famous songs "Summertime," "I Got Plenty Of Nothin'," and "It Ain't Necessarily So."  The story of Bess' struggles to escape a checkered past, and her blooming romance with the crippled Porgy, is considered one of the most sizzlin' love stories to ever heat up a Broadway stage.
