As strange as it may seem, there are tons of people who talk about meeting at a local farmer's market. So grab a tote and head out, ideally to one of the more populated markets, like the Union Square Green Market.
Walk through the space a couple of times to check out the stands before heading over to whatever table strikes your fancy. Even if you don't meet anyone, you're bond to score some super fresh, local produce and support small scale farms.
