Bemelmans Bar at the Carlyle Hotel

"Tell them it was wonderful," were the words Ludwig Bemelman joked that he'd like his tombstone to read. Besides creating the fantastically wonderful Madeline books for children, he was responsible for the large-scale murals in the hotel bar named in his honor. And, he would have been delighted to have seen the scene inside his watering hole over the last couple of nights. Wonderful it was. We paid the band cover charge each and every time we got a round of drinks - because we felt we owed it to the place that was helping us ease our own displacement last night. Bemelman's has been around for more than 50 years and has seen more moguls and movie stars than most NYC spots ever will. And this week, the place has been restored to its full glory, ROCKING all night with music, laughter, drinks and stories told over candlelight. Spotted guests last night included Derek Blasberg, Karlie Kloss, Waris Ahluwalia, Johan Lindeberg, Scott Lipps, Ashley Simko, Alex Adler, and others.
