America Ferrera And The Cast Of Ugly Betty Say Goodbye

[All photos by Amber De Vos for PMc] After four successful seasons, the curtain is closing on Ugly Betty, the show that made headlines when production was moved from Los Angeles to New York City in 2008. -

The shows stars have become fixtures on the NY scene, especially Michael Urie, Ana Ortiz, and the young, yet omnipresent, Mark Indelicato, appearing at charity events, fashion shows, and Broadway openings.

America Ferrera, Judith Light and Eric Maibus all attended as well, though sadly no Becki Newton or Vanessa Williams. Fern Mallis also made it to the closing night party (have you noticed that she and Indelicato are BFFs? They're always hugging.) at Room Service, where the cast of the show put their overwhelming emotions into song for a heartfelt karaoke round. Sadness then purged through song, the cast and crew made speeches and enjoyed a cake with Betty's famous red poncho on it.

Very sad: Ugly Betty was a good show (at least for the one season I watched it), but moreover employed talented actors, writers, set dressers, costume designers, and make-up artists. The collaboration of all these craftsmen and professionals resulted in a show that was funny, creative, and unique. Hopefully the demise of Ugly Betty isn't indicative of a larger pattern of audiences preferring to laugh at shows like High Society and Pretty Wild than scripted comedies. There can be room for both, right?
