Summer Screen featuring Ratking, Princess Nokia, and "Zoolander"

Where: McCarren Park Other details: Last night, the organizers of the Northside Festival presented the second week of their summer series Summer Screen featuring performances by Ratking and Princess Nokia followed by a screening of the fan-favorite film "Zoolander." Early in the evening, guests began to gather at McCarren Park to set up a spot and skip the lines for food and beer vendors including Moto Pizza, Sixpoint Beer, and Zico Coconut Water. Members of Ratking were there early, where they greeted some guests and were casually performing skateboard tricks while getting amped for the show. Princess Nokia first took the stage and performed a set of her genre-bending tracks, which brought a dose of energy into the park. Ratking proceeded, and the critically acclaimed rap trio took the show to the next level, with a large crowd of fans crowding the stage. The sound went out due to fans stepping on wires several times during the performance, but the group went with it. Isaiah Barr and Austin Williamson, of the supporting band Onyx, kept the sound alive with their sax and drum rhythms, and Hak from Ratking yelled out "a capella!" and got the crowd to sing the lyrics themselves. Soon after, the excited crowd took a seat as the film "Zoolander" kicked off. The choice was perfect, and even Williamsburg residents couldn't help but tweet about the well-known scenes like 'the walk-off' that played as they passed by.
