Shorty Awards was held at the Times Center last night. Hosted by actress and Internet celebrity Felicia Day, the event has been noted as the Oscars of social media. The award show recognizes outstanding social media performance, with an emphasis on Twitter. Award finalists were determined by the most votes through Twitter, and winners were even asked to limit their acceptance speech to 140 characters. Jimmy Kimmel was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award and Michelle Obama was given a #GIFStar Special Shorty Award for appearing in several viral GIFs. Other notable winners included the Mars rover Curiosity as Foursquare Mayor of the Year, Texts from Hillary for Tumblr of the Year and pop star Justin Bieber for the Celebrity category.
