Move Over Barbie: Why We're Loving The Willowbrook Girls Dolls

by guestofaguest · March 2, 2016

It may have been a while since you ventured into your local toy store to track down that doll you just HAD to have, but chances are you'll need a gift for a niece or a baby shower soon enough. There’s a new line of dolls for our female leaders of tomorrow, and we couldn’t be more excited.

The Willowbrook Girls are a contemporary doll and story collection designed to inspire and empower the next generation of girls. Trust, you'll want to get one for your little sister. Just like us, they are budding entrepreneurs, journalists, coders, chefs, educators, engineers, politicians and Broadway stars. See what we mean? These girls are going places, and redefining “cool” along the way.

A sneak peek of the story collection is already available on the Willowbrook Girls website and we love these fun, career-driven and quirky new characters. The founder of Willowbrook Girls, Neha Chauhan Woodward, looked to her own childhood for inspiration. “Growing up, I didn’t see a reflection of myself or my friends in the dolls we were playing with,” explains Neha. “I’m Indian-American and my group of friends growing up was as diverse as you could imagine. Not only that, we were a goal-oriented, ambitious and outspoken bunch. Even today, there are very few mainstream dolls or characters that promote these qualities that should be celebrated in young girls, so it has been especially important to me to be the one to finally create these dynamic characters.”

To echo the entrepreneurial spirit behind the Willowbrook Girls, Neha launched a Kickstarter campaign to turn her dream into a reality. Within just one week of launching, the Willowbrook Girls have amassed over two-thirds of the $30,000 funding goal. Cara, the arts-and-crafts obsessed entrepreneur will be the first doll to go into production if all goes to plan. Move over Barbie!
