In 2020, we had the Aperol Spritz. Last year, it was the espresso martini.
Apparently, it's time to pour one out for both of them. #RIP
Whether you've seen them taking over a sidewalk table at Fanelli's recently, spotted them on TikTok, or simply read about them in the New York Times, Dirty Shirleys seem to be the widely agreed-upon "It Drink" of summer 2022.
Talk about a throwback.
As its name suggests, the Dirty Shirley is indeed a grown-up twist on the saccharine mocktail of our childhood, the Shirley Temple. You know, that bright red, cherry-topped concoction our parents would order for us at weddings and family functions for some reason. Maybe so we wouldn't feel left out at the bar?
Influenced, perhaps, by our ever-growing obsession with holding onto our youth, the Shirley Temple is back, albeit with some actual alcohol in it this time.
Wondering how to whip up the ~sophisticated~ version of the sip for all your upcoming summer hangs? Belvedere has got you covered with the perfect vodka-splashed recipe:
