I have a confession: The Sweetest Thing was my favorite movie in highschool and I watched it more times than I’d like to admit. If you’ve seen Charlie’s Angels, There’s Something About Mary or My Best Friend’s Wedding more than once, you may have also fallen under the charms of the films' bubbly blonde heroine: Cameron Diaz. But did you know that she’s making wine now?
Personally, I usually roll my eyes at the actor-turned-booze entrepreneur. Just because you’re cute as a button in The Holiday, does not mean you are an expert in, well…anything else. But when it comes to Cameron Diaz and Avaline wine, I took notice, and here is why you might too.
Avaline was founded by Cameron Diaz and Katherine Power of WhoWhatWear, because (like so many women in Los Angeles) they are meticulous about what they put into and onto their bodies. These women eat clean, they use clean beauty products, and they realized that until now, their wine was not being held to the same standards as everything else. If you are buying 100% organic groceries, shouldn’t you do the same for your wine? So, Diaz and Power created a brand that offers 100% ingredient transparency, producer transparency, and even label transparency that shows fat, calorie, and sugar facts on every label. And they are facts that they are proud of because Avaline works to keep sugar, sulfur, calories and even alcohol content to a minimum. They’ve even cleared up all the buzzwords because the wine world can be a sneaky place with hidden ingredients that you’d never imagine. Avaline is non-GMO, vegan, paleo and keto – just about any diet that a famous actress might swear by, is approved by Cameron and her clean wine brand.
I am in my 3rd trimester of pregnancy, when folks are very divided about the amount of wine that may or may not be consumed safely. As a wine-lover and the product of European parents, wine is the only booze that I’ve truly missed this year. In summers past, Whispering Angel or any Provençal rosé have been my go-to, preferably poured generously alongside some oysters. But in a year without oysters OR wine, I’ve been forced to go “LA actress strict” on what I consume, and Avaline is a brand that I now trust to sip (very sparingly) as I near the end of this delicate time. So, whatever the reasons might be for seeking a “guilt-free” wine experience, Avaline has you covered. And that, my low-sugar-loving readers, is really just the sweetest thing.
