Who Is Virgil Abloh? Meet Louis Vuitton's New Menswear Designer

by Stephanie Maida · March 26, 2018

    This just in from Paris!

After the departure of Kim Jones (who enlisted both Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell to see him off earlier this year), Louis Vuitton's menswear division has been in need of a creative director. In the early hours of Monday morning, it was announced that streetwear luminary Virgil Abloh would be his replacement.

Fashion insiders have long had Abloh on their radar. The DJ and creative connoisseur interned at Fendi (alongside Kanye West) back in 2009, was nominated for a Grammy for his work as art director on Jay-Z and Kanye's 2011 album Watch The Throne, and launched his highly-coveted label Off-White in 2013. His fandom already includes an army of It Girls and fashion influencers, including Kendall Jenner and the Hadids.

The frequent Kanye collaborator is clearly a man of many talents, and his latest appointment will reveal just how masterful a multitasker he is. According to the New York Times, Abloh will continue running Off-White and working with his hip-hop friends, though his first collection for the luxury house will be due on the runway this June. No pressure!
