It Makes Much More Sense To Believe That There Are Aliens (Extraterrestrials) Out There Than Not To.
[Yuri Milner, Frank Drake, Kara Swisher]
I found the conversation between Billionaire Yuri Milner, founder, DST Global, and Frank Drake, chairman emeritus, SETI Institute (moderated by re/code's Kara Swisher), to be amongst my favorites of the Summit.
Milner is spending $100 million dollars on the search for E.T.s because "It's an existential question profound enough to be worth it."
I tend to agree, and after starting day two listening to him speak, it was hard to come back down to earth and listen to the next conversations about TV, ad dollars and VR.
Some more take aways:
It makes much more sense to believe that there are extraterrestrials out there than not to. Especially given the size of the universe and beyond.
"A whole universe made for us would be pretty amazing." - Milner
BUT!
If there are others out there, we are probably "insects" in comparison to them, intellectually speaking. Based on our position on earth, the timeline of our planet and other factors that some kid from Stanford brought up, we are probably just cockroaches in comparison to other intellectual life forms out there. Um (!).
