C & O Towpath
Ride along not only the Georgetown and Potomac rivers but also the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal. The Chesapeake and Ohio Towpath is a whopping 183 miles and offers a look at the rich history of the coal and lumber towns that developed on the canal. Be aware that the trail consists of hard-packed dirt that may require thicker tires. Bike out to the Great Allegheny Passage, a trail that extends to Pittsburgh.
