Hey Wash Po, Didn't WashCityPaper Write About "DMV" A Year Ago?

by NIKKI BOGOPOLSKAYA · July 30, 2010

Thank you @alexbaca for pointing out yet another flaw in the Washington Post's piece about the term "DMV."  Not only is it not really Washington Post material, but another publication that's much hipper and therefore better able to pull off such quirky pieces already wrote about it.  A year ago.

We have just been made aware that Wash Post’s piece on “the DMV” isn’t only:

    A) Not newsworthy

    B) Foolish, because really, who would want to name themselves after a “ferociously unpopular bureaucracy” that is always crowded with unattractive, unfriendly, and disgruntled patrons But also

    C) Not even new information. An October 2009 Washington City Paper covered this emerging nickname first and covered it better. The witty article interviews the owner and spokesperson for the rap group who coined the term, and cites their displeasure at its emerging use:

“We wanted to copyright it, but our lawyers said, ‘No, are you crazy? That’s the Department of Motor Vehicles.’”

    …Duh.

Minus 1 for trying, WaPo WashPo.  Minus 2 for not even doing your research.
