Other details: On Wednesday, March 4th, Voto Latino hosted their 10th year anniversary celebration announced the winners of the VL Innovators Challenge at the Hamilton Live. Top supporters from the technology sector, Hollywood, media, and politics joined Voto Latino Co-Founder and Chairwoman Rosario Dawson and Voto Latino President and CEO María Teresa Kumar. An intimate gathering with supporters preceded the celebration, which included remarks by The Honorable Steny Hoyer, Democratic Whip; The Honorable Julián Castro, Secretary, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development; The Honorable Tom Perez, Secretary, U.S. Department of Labor; Voto Latino President and CEO María Teresa Kumar, and Voto Latino Co-Founder and Chairwoman Rosario Dawson. The Challenge awarded $500,000 in grants divided among the seven winning projects. Those awarded a grant will be provided with access to the expertise of Silicon Valley veterans like Google to help see their ideas to fruition. Winners will be hosted at the end of March for a tech boot camp at the Google Headquarters in Silicon Valley. The VL Innovators Challenge is part of the Connected Learning movement, an educational approach that makes learning relevant to everyone, to real life and real work, and to the realities of the digital age.
