Who was there: Guest included Event Director Kim Sajet, bloggers Natalie Joos and Kelly Framel, and The Dolls, Mia Moretti and Margot, and Chez Conversations' Cleo Wade, Kate Greer, and Liza Voloshi.
Other details: On Thursday, March 12, a bevy of socialites and art enthusiasts came out to the National Portrait Gallery to celebrate the opening of "Elaine de Kooning Portraits"- the largest exhibition of the late artist, which was hosted by Chez Conversations, a New York-based art collective formed by Cleo Wade, Kate Greer, Liza Voloshin, and The Dolls (Margot and Mia Moretti). The art soiree received guests inside the Kogod Courtyard with drinks and a live musical performance by Sean Lane and the Bay Jazz Project. At 7:45 p.m., Director Kim Sajet took the stage and offered a lengthy speech that recognized de Kooning as a key influencer of modern art. As Sajet concluded her noteworthy remarks, doors opened to de Kooning's designated works on the second floor, which included her commissioned 1962 portrait of then-President, John F. Kennedy. A pioneer of the abstract expressionism movement in New York City, Elaine de Kooning merely broke the glass-ceiling for women in the arts, which was clearly evident throughout her showcased paintings. Throughout the wing, you could see many guests fervently snapping selfies with several of the art pieces. Afterward, guests descended back to the Kogod Courtyard to enjoy a decadent buffet and cocktails, which was then followed by a special performance by New York-based band, The Dolls.
