2020 Congressional Race
In a what many considered a "political upset," he defeated Lynda Bennett, who had been endorsed by Trump, in North Carolina's June 2020 Republican primary. He ran against retired U.S. Air Force colonel Moe Davis, a Democrat, and used social media to hurl Reddit-like insults at his opponent, like calling him a "simp" (I don't know, look it up on Urban Dictionary). Nevertheless, the good people of NC's 11th congressional district were totally into it and voted for Cawthorn in November's general election. Upon winning, he took to Twitter to write, "Cry more, lib." Real mature.
