Uber Is Here To Save Us From DC's Cab System

by Sophie Pyle · December 16, 2011

Big news this week for Washingtonians that like taking cabs or hiring drivers to events!

Uber, a professional driving service, launched this week. Uber sends sleek town cars to chauffeur their customers in San Fran, NYC, Boston, Paris and other cities. All you have to do is text your location to their HQ, and a car usually comes within 10 minutes. You don't even have to download an app (although there is an app for Uber).

Also this week, taxi fares nearly doubled, but we're not going to see credit card machines for at least another year. I also have a feeling we are about a decade away from being able to text for rides.

After you set up your account, Uber will automatically charge your credit card on file after a ride. No cash is necessary. An Uber ride is only a few dollars more than a cab ride, and you will get to ride in a chic black sedan and get professional service. None of this, or this. It's also about, oh, a bajillion dollars less expensive than hiring a car from any other limo company in DC.

Uber also has flat fares to Dulles ($80) and BWI ($115) from DC.

I don't know what you are waiting for. Sign up HERE to learn more and get started!

Uber is a sponsor of our Hot Hundred Holiday party, and will be offering free rides to select guests to and from the event tonight.
