Shepard Fairey Is Commissioned By Ace Hotel

The contemporary American artist, Shepard Fairey, (a.k.a. the mastermind behind the Obama "Hope" poster) has been commissioned by the Ace Hotel to provide some artwork for them (jealous).-

It will coincide with the opening of his "May Day" exhibition at Deitch Projects. Look at him, all multi-tasking and stuff.

The May Day exhibition lasts from the first to the 29th, and it is founder's Jeffrey Deitch's last installation at the Deitch Projects before he up and leaves for Los Angeles, where he will be the director at the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art.

As for the art that the Ace Hotel is going to get, it'll be all new stuff that might never come up in a Google image search. But we hear he also plans to "wheat-paste" something like 80 feet of plywood that wrap around the hotel, and that we'll be able to see. All of this is right up his alley, seeing as he just finished a mural on Houston and Bowery. He's also rumored to be working on a mural that will go on a wall next to the Cooper Square Hotel. (He seems to like hotels, yes?)
