Escaping The Big Smoke

Escaping The Big Smoke
Hang up your winter coat, it’s time to take a stroll in the fresh air during the Goldilocks of seasons (not too hot, not too cold). Hello flowers in bloom, it’s been a while. On your NYC to-do list there’s Central Park of course (with cherry blossoms in full bloom), the High Line, picnics in Brooklyn Bridge Park, graffiti mecca 5 Pointz, open-air sculpture museum Socrates Sculpture Park, Brooklyn Botanic Garden’s Hanami Japanese Garden (with approximately 220 cherry blossoms), Wednesday Skate Night at Union Square, NY Dance Parade, Queens Taste food festival at Citi Field, The Manhattan Cocktail Classic, Governors Island, Coney Island Beach with Big Mark’s Action Park opening, Rockaway Beach, Orchard Beach and Manhattanhenge, where the setting sun will illuminate both sides of every street in the borough four times a year. For the best view, camp out as far east as possible along a broad avenue with views across the island (14th and 34th Streets will do). Winner: Tie. If any city slickers can master the art of escaping from the daily grind, its New Yorkers and Berliners. [Photo via]
