For those who missed it: the feud that's been bubbling since 2009 exploded when Kim Snapchatted footage that caught Taylor in a pretty massive lie. It all started when Taylor won video of the year (do we even remember which video it was for? Nope.) beating out Beyoncé's legendary "Single Ladies" music video. Kanye got up on stage, grabbed the mic, and addressed the elephant in the room: Beyoncé had made one of the best videos of all time, Of course, he let her finish her bashful speech afterwards.
He later apologized and recorded the repentant "Runaway" in response. Until West released "Famous," in which he raps "I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex/ I made that bitch famous," the two held up an impressively convincing amicable facade. However, upon hearing the line for what she insisted was the first time, Taylor threw Kanye shade the only way she knows how - with a thinly veiled statement. Upon accepting the award, under the guise of girl power, she said "there are people who will... try to take credit for ... your fame" in a pretty un-subtle middle finger to the rapper.
Kim, in a interview with GQ, insisted that there was proof that Taylor had approved the lyric before West recorded the song. Of course, Taylor's legal team responded by threatening with a lawsuit (apparently she was unaware the phone call was being recorded, and that's illegal in California). But Kim had had enough of her shit, so she went ahead and leaked the footage and exposed the hell out of her.
Taylor responded via Insta with a screen-shot note claiming that she "can't approve a song [she's] never heard" because Kanye had never shared the finished product with her before releasing "Famous." Was it the beats behind the pre-approved lyrics that offended you, Tay? Though I'm sure you had your team type it up for you months in advance, your Insta-rejoinder seems to have a few holes in it.
