After being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, Cynthia Sachs (also known as “Head Cupcake”) missed being able to relish baked goods and set out to learn the delicate art of healthy baking. Now, she is the owner and baker of Hamptons Cupcake Lounge, offering a healthier alternative to one of the most popular desserts. The result is flavorful low-fat, low-calorie, low-carbohydrate and low-sugar cupcakes with a current selection of 27 creative flavors, a healthy choice for anyone on a sweet treat quest.

From balancing to mixing non-traditional ingredients, the self-taught Sachs has achieved a similar flavor, taste, texture and color as the full-fat version.  In turn, she has successfully created a sugar-free dessert option for diabetics as well as children. (And to help the earth out, all packaging is made from recycled products.)

So what are the flavors? They will serving up anything from classics like Red Velvet Kiss, to more creative options like PBJ, a vanilla cupcake filled with strawberry jam and topped with peanut butter cream, and Lavender Lemonade, a lavender cupcake with fresh lemon juice and lemony vanilla frosting in addition to Earl Grey or Green Tea selections.

Cupcakes can be purchased at Olish Farms Country Market (Eastport Manor Road, Eastport NY 631-325-0539) as well as the following farmers markets: Whole Foods (120 New Moriches Rd., Lake Grove), bi-monthly Wednesdays, 12-6 p.m.; Hayground School (151 Mitchell Lane, Bridgehampton), Fridays, 3-6:30 p.m. from June through Labor Day weekend; and Southampton (on Jobs Lane next to Parrish Art Museum) Sundays, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. from June 3 to October 10.
