The word viral gets tossed around quite loosely these days, but in the case of this toasted-fluff-topped hot chocolate, it's a pretty on point descriptor.
Back in November Upper East Side ice cream spot Glace by Noglu found themselves in need of a creative fix and started serving up a less chilly treat. Ever since the line to grab one of their $13 specialty hot chocolates has found itself stretching farther and farther down Madison Avenue.
“As it got colder our sales started to drop off," shared Sasha Zabar, son of Eli, with the NY Post. "I thought, ‘what could we do that will give us just enough business to make it through winter? We came up with hot chocolate. We always had meringue laying around as a topping. I had this idea to change the recipe slightly and put it on the rim.”
Indecisive customers might have up to an hour of waiting to choose which of the Instagram sensation flavors they'd like to try, which currently include s’mores, crème brûlée, peppermint and cookies ‘n’ cream. Last Saturday alone the mini-storefront sold 1,200 cups of the sweet stuff, whose rims are wrapped with toasted Italian marshmallow fluff, and topped with an extra scoop of fluff, for good measure.
While not all social media crazes are worth the hype, the general consensus on this winter sip is it's one not to be missed. Though consider yourself warned, consuming this drink is a most messy venture.
