Materializing Perspectives - Between Art and Design @ Salon Vert w/Pelime.com

by Stanely Stuyvesant · August 4, 2011

Salon Vert, in association with Pelime.com recently hosted a survey of four contemporary UK artists in the new show Materializing Persepctives - Between Art and Design. Working at the cross-sections of art, design, science and architecture these artists looked beyond design and function to create provocative sculptures and installations.  All photos HERE.

More about the installation: Objects that we associate with the everyday- a chandelier, a shelf, a glass of wine, - were transformed into something unusual and mesmerising. The installations in different media challenged perceptions of the environment, both natural and artificially constructed, and offered an alternative perspective on the role of nature in contemporary artistic and design practices.

The show offered a possibility of meditation on the sense of elusiveness and the passing of temporary impressions, linked to the body's physical position in relation to art. This new perspective offered a possibility to step out of our common perception of reality to see the uncanny in the everyday objects surrounding us.
