Well if this isn't a Season 35 Entourage story line, we don't know what is.
Since the nationwide lockdown began, Hollywood powerbrokers have had to find new ways to flex their Rolodex without rubbing elbows in person. It appears they've landed on the idea of hosting exclusive Zoom parties for VIP clients and friends, and a couple of bigwigs are now neck and neck for the title of "Virtual Host with the Most."
The Hollywood Reporter first pointed to the snowballing Zoom gatherings of WME partner Richard Weitz, who originally asked famous friends to log on for his daughter's 17th birthday party in quarantine. Over the next few weeks, the digital bashes became the industry's most coveted invite, growing to include over 300 guests and featuring live performances and appearances by L.L. Cool J, Tina Fey, Charlie Puth, John Legend, and John Mayer.
Now, according to Page Six, another "mega-manger," Guy Oseary, a friend of Madonna's, is giving Weitz's Zooms a run for their money. His weekly video chats have attracted the likes of Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson, Leonardo DiCaprio, Chris Rock, Dave Chappelle, Jessica Chastain, Alex Rodriguez, Lenny Kravitz, Jimmy Fallon, Adam Sandler and Laura Dern.
But while Oseary seems to be snagging more of the star-power for his intimate hangouts (in which A-listers discuss the latest entertainment documentaries, including ESPN's mind-blowing The Last Dance), Weitz's events also include a charity element, and have raised over $2 million for COVID relief - so he does get extra points there.
Nevertheless, let's just wait for Ari Gold to enter the chat before declaring a winner...
