Blondie & Devo at Greek Theatre
If it weren't for Blondie, Devo, and the rest of the late 70s/early 80s New Wave, you awful hipsters wouldn't have the electronica you love so much, so show some respect. Or, if you're feeling more charitable, you could simply point out that modern music's obsession with purposefully artificial sounds and synth noise puts Debbie Harry and Mark Mothersbaugh in a prime position to once again chart singles and sell out arenas. This is borne out with Wednesday night's nearly sold out "Whip It To Shreds" tour stop at The Greek. There's not a better place to enjoy the late summer weather on any given night, but surrounded by 40-something ex-scenesters reliving their glory days. And don't just expect a retread of the hits; both groups have produced new material recently, including Devo's just-released single "Don't Roof Rack Me, Bro (Seamus Unleashed)," a tribute to Mitt Romney's now-infamous lashing of the family dog to the roof of the car on a family trip.
