Crossing Brooklyn Ferry
Where/When Is It?: Brooklyn Academy of Music (May 3-5). What's It Like?: A three night festival of music and film  featuring The Walkmen, St. Vincent, and Beirut. The name comes from Walt Whitman’s seminal poem, "Crossing Brooklyn Ferry," and takes place at the Brooklyn Academy of Music and highlights local talent. Notable Acts: The Walkmen, St. Vincent, Beirut, Atlas Sound. Types of People: I'm not even going to say the word, but it is a music festival based on a Whitman poem in Brooklyn... Pros: "Celebrates the diverse community of artists who call Brooklyn their home" is a really cool "buy local" strategy that makes you want to embrace your home, and certainly calls attention to the amount of talent that resides in the most aggressively alt zip codes in America. Cons: "Celebrates the diverse community of artists who call Brooklyn their home" means you're going to get a lot of asshole barista/mandolin players from Bushwick who want to bum your American Spirits.
