I'll Be Your Mirror USA 2012
Where/When Is It?: Asbury Park, NJ (September 21-23). Type of Music: This is by far one of the more interesting festival ideas out there. All Tomorrow's Parties invites a musician to curate their Asbury Park, NJ event by choosing all the bands playing on the bill. It's like making a mix-tape and then seeing it live. This year's curator is Greg Dulli of The Afghan Whigs. Notable Acts: The Roots, Jose Gonzalez, Hot Snakes, Louis C.K. Types of People: It's hard to say for this one since the crowd depends on who the curator-chosen lineup draws, but I will say I'll Be Your Mirror's website calls it "an extremely civilized festival for people who are genuinely into music and film," so you could be getting a mellow group, a curious group, a super pretentious group, or a combo of them all. Pros: The individual curated aspect lends this event a particularly creative foundation that basically brings a you a giant celebrity live playlist. Cons: Did you see the thing about "an extremely civilized festival?" Does that mean "a so-called festival that will look down on you for being pants-shittingly intoxicated"? The fact that it's named after a Velvet Underground B-Side (to "All Tomorrow's Parties," no less) is also just too precious for words. Plus, if you're looking for year-to-year stability, you probably won't get it. No two festivals are the same, or even necessarily similar in the types of performers they feature. [Via]
