It is nearly impossible to imagine or understand the kind of wealth that tech men like Bill Gates have. Back in February, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation pledged $100 million to treat the threat and effects of Coronavirus.
Now, I don't know about you, but after writing a check like that, even if I was one of the wealthiest human beings on the planet, I'd mentally need to switch to buying generic toilet paper for a while just to bring myself back into a place of feeling financially safe.
While I can't speak for whether or not they're cutting back on housegoods (though let's be honest, they probably have a special engineered, never brought to market level of Charmin that also makes you live forever), the Gates's certainly aren't tightening their belts when it comes to homes.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the pair just paid $43 million for a stunning new oceanfront estate in Del Mar, California (near San Diego).
The property features a six bedroom and four bathroom, 5,800 square foot main home, a greenhouse, two guesthouses, a health spa, a theater, a glass-tiled pool, a 10-person jacuzzi, oh, and a tennis court.
I suppose when everyone's forced to stay at home, it makes sense to start broadening the footprint of what 'home' means and snatching up a few more options. Personally, my quarantine spending has been a bit different, problematic in its own way albeit, but I get it. I like to think that Melinda bought this online late one night after one too many glasses of wine. I'm happy to spread that rumor.
