Tucked away in the aggressive pleasantness of downtown Santa Monica, Border Grill has become one of Gourmet's "Best Restaurants In America" by offering enticingly simple, fresh Mexican food, cooked (or supervised, now that BG has become a sensation with locations in Downtown L.A. & Vegas, plus a food truck) by two classically-trained American chefs, Mary Sue Milliken and Susan Feniger. Both the SaMo and Downtown locations are participating in Restaurant Week, and favorites like the Yucatan Pork (roasted in banana leaf with homemade corn tortilla) and Short Ribs Barbacoa are available in the dinner options. You have to pay more for the Chile Relleno Burger, a ground brisket burger topped with a roasted stuffed poblano pepper, but if you've got the money burning a hole in your pocket, you will not be disappointed.
