Armory Show 2012 and Party at MoMA
One of New York's most anticipated art fairs, The Armory Show, opens today at Piers 92 and 94. Founded thirteen years ago, MoMA's international art fair is divided into two sections, modern and contemporary, which feature art from both living and deceased masters of the craft. By juxtaposing artists like Vincent van Gogh with Marcel Duchamp and Edward Hopper, attendants will be offered a unique visual history of artists and their influences.
In celebration of the opening, MoMA is throwing The Armory Party tonight, a music-filled fete headlined by the band Neon Indian. VIP guests will be treated to a meet-and-greet with the show's commissioned artist, Theaster Gates, and a private tour of MoMA's sixth-floor galleries.
