Larry Clark Stuff
Tonight is the opening reception for Larry Clark Stuff, an art book publisher
Boo-
Hooray’s exhibition of the personal belongings of controversial artist and director Larry Clark. Curated by Johan Kugelberg, the exhibition showcases Clark’s vast collection of skateboard decks, vintage Fuct and Supreme t-shirts. It even displays some of the clothing used in his films such as
Wassup Rockers and
Marfa Girl.
Responsible for some of the most lurid and arguably realistic portrayals of suburban teenagers in film over the past twenty years, this exhibition gives audiences a glimpse at some of Clark’s most prized possessions and how they may have influenced Clark’s storytelling. Skateboard culture and guerrilla design are featured prominently in many of his photographs and films and it’s no surprise to find Clark’s “stuff” is rife with echoes of his later projects. After all, Clark’s chance encounter with a young skateboarder named Harmony Korine led to his piece de resistance:
Kids.
Dates: March 6 - March 10
Where: Milk Gallery, 450 West 15th Street
