David Jelinek, Money Down
While we've pretty much accepted the fact that we will never win the lottery, there remains those luck-hungry hopefuls who continue doling out the daily dollar or two in hopes of scratching off a prize. When the inevitable disappointment sets in, the losing ticket is tossed aside—until next time.
This fluctuation between hope and loss is exactly what David Jelinek tries to capture in his new exhibition,
Money Down, in which thousands of lottery tickets are scattered across the gallery floor. Who knows, maybe art is the ultimate jackpot.
