Kim Dorland, Ghosts of You and Me

Kim Dorland, Ghosts of You and Me
In her third solo exhibition at the Mike Weiss Gallery, Toronto-based artist Kim Dorland transformed her canvases into vivid, 3-D renderings of dreamlike scenes and psychic glows. Taking its name from a Leonard Cohen lyric, Ghosts of You and Me featured pieces that marry the starkness of black with hyper-saturated fluorescent hues, leaving viewers with an eerie impression of something supernatural. By exploring the darker realms of the mind à la artists such as Francis Bacon and Eugène Leroy, Dorland takes her oil paintings to a hauntingly evocative level—let's just say you didn't want to sleep in the dark after viewing.
