Ted Lawson, CRUDE
A modern-day example of memento mori, Ted Lawson's sculptures capture the surrealist beauty of objects that seem drowned in oil.
CRUDE, the artist's second solo exhibition at Emmanuel Fremin Gallery, was a collective installation which bends the boundaries between liquid and solid, life and death, and illusion and reality. The three-dimensional pieces, including a female body suspended in what appears to be thin air, required viewers to, in turn, suspend their disbelief in order to take part in the fantastical moment.
