From vampire heartthrob to moody superhero to... contemporary art curator?
Thanks to Sotheby's, Robert Pattinson is adding a gallery guy gig to his movie star resume, as the iconic auction house has tapped him to be a guest curator of this season’s “Contemporary Curated” sale hitting NYC at the end of September.
While some art world insiders have rolled their eyes at the celebrity appointment, it's arguably not much of a leap for the artsy actor, who clearly leans towards creative indie films between blockbusters.
Whether he's choosing art house roles or auction house pieces, dude has undeniably good taste. Rob's personal picks for the sale include works by Willem de Kooning, Richard Serra, and Julie Mehretu, a selection he thoughtfully explains in an interview with Sotheby's.
"What I look for is when a piece has its own language," Pattinson says. "It doesn’t necessarily feel like it just exists for its own sake and has a presence that hums with a bit of life. It has the ability to communicate with you on a kind of primordial level."
We mean, it certainly sounds like he knows what he's talking about.
The star's curated picks will be on view in “Contemporary Curated” at Sotheby’s New York from September 23rd to 29th ahead of the live auction on September 30th, but you can see Rob wax poetic about his passion for art below:
