Besides the gargantuan ring, Burton couldn't help himself but to shower Taylor with more expensive jewelry, which has sold for even more now. The pearl, diamond and ruby necklace, known as "La Peregrina," (seen to left) was purchased at auction for $37,000 in 1969 by Burton for Taylor. It was estimated to sell for $2 million to $3 million yesterday, but instead sold for $11,842,500 and breaking the world record of purchasing a pearl, surpassing the 2007 record of $7,096,000.
