A dish that may be even more inedible than the regular menu at Mar-a-Lago? A 12-year-old souvenir slice of wedding cake from Donald and Melania's 2005 nuptials. Nevertheless, the stale dessert just sold for $2,240 at auction.
While we're hoping the purchase is a part of some voodoo curse (sorry not sorry), collectible cakes are surprisingly common. In 2014, for example, someone paid over $7000 for a piece of Prince William and Kate Middleton's royal fruit cake (although those do tend to get better with age - supposedly).
According to Julien's Auctions, the original seven-tier creation cost the Trumps about $50,000, and was never consumed by guests due to the amount of wiring it required to stand up. All show and no substance, huh? Sounds mighty familiar.
