Since its opening exactly a year ago, L'Avenue at Saks has played host to countless supermodels, fashion insiders, and even a Kardashian or two, so it only makes sense that the hot spot's big one-year birthday bash should serve as the official-unofficial kickoff of New York Fashion Week.
Last night, the plush bi-level space atop the iconic shopping destination was transformed into a neon-lit, champagne-filled, music-blastin' scene, with A-listers from Billy Porter (a co-host of the evening, along with Saks Fifth Avenue President Marc Metrick) and Gwendoline Christie to Natasha Lyonne and Julia Fox packing in to celebrate the occasion.
Guests (i.e. just about everyone in the fashion biz and their friends) were greeted with an epic bubbly tower and dessert spread worthy of Marie Antoinette - mountains of macarons and sweet displays of pastries plucked straight out of a Sofia Coppola film paid homage to L'Avenue's Parisian roots.
Drag Race stars and '90s-style club kids nailed the night's dress code, Uncommon Chic, as did renowned French DJ, Kiddy Smile, who had everyone hitting the dance floor upstairs. Downstairs, at L'Avenue's glowing red après-ski lounge, Le Chalet, the vibe was at once both calmer and more frenetic - DJ Amrit spun while It Kid attendees cozied up on couches and waited on line at two designated photo ops and an ear-piercing station by jewelry designer Maria Tash in the dim, wood-paneled space. It felt like a giant VIP section, which, arguably, it often is.
