When it comes to event ensembles, I'd say I've a fairly seasoned level of experience. After all, it's not as if my Social Calendar is wanting in more invites. Another day, another gala.
And sure there are particular events which demand a certain degree of 'extra' attention. Take anything at The Whitney for example, where sartorial peacocking is a must just to simply blend in. But on an average night of the week, where running from a garden party to a cocktail reception to an intimate performance to a big late-night bash is a complete possibility, I'm all about a uniform. Tonne Goodman style.
A silk slip dress will never let you down. It's always appropriate, perpetually chic, and most importantly, comfortable. Black, white, blue, bronze. The "formal" section of my closet is basically a Kate Moss Pinterest board come to life with slinky strappy styles.
And just when I thought I couldn't have had a more well-stocked inventory of options, there it was. The PERFECT, can-life-go-on-without-it?, platonic ideal, never-wear-anything-else-again, white-whale of a dress!
Tory Burch's Embroidered Satin Slip Dress is everything. It's cool, it's elegant, it's flattering, it's got sequins and its color name is Prosecco! Really, what else could a person need?
While first donning the look at Lincoln Center's American Songbook Gala, I was quickly confirmed in my belief that this be the end all be all of event attire. Seriously. Aside from the barrage of compliments I received from strangers, Diane von Furstenberg thrice gave me a complete up-and-down inspection, which I think we can all agree is the height of female to female praise.
So yeah, if you're looking to be the best dressed woman in the room, do yourself a favor and snatch this look up before it inevitably sells out! I won't even be upset if we should run into each other on the circuit.
