After 28 wonderfully aesthetic years at American Vogue, everyone's beloved redheaded fashion icon is taking one step back from the tall white ivory tower - settling into a more part-time, special projects based roll as Creative-Director-at-Large.

Producing a seasonally appropriate minimum of four photoshoots per year, she'll have plenty of room to pursue outside campaigns. And with a portfolio to kill for, as well as at least three or four good industry contacts, we're not too worried for her next step. Especially since word is she's already on board for a perfume campaign with Comme des Garcons, and a coffee table book with Phaidon.

Though the adjustment to the slower paced life will be hard, life beyond Vogue is most definitely worth living for. If only to indulge in more furry face time with these kitties. Because really, who wouldn't trade fashion for felines?
