Last night the Hudson River Powerhouse Group held a cocktail reception at Basil Walter Architects.

Guests enjoyed the expanse of the SoHo venue, that all-too-rare characteristic of NYC spaces, while mingling to support the landmarking and reimagining of midtown west's IRT Powerhouse. Such a designation would protect the building, completed in 1904 to power the city subway system, for another century. The case for distinction has twice been heard by the Landmarks Preservation Commission, but the picturesque historical spot has yet to receive the protective declaration. The Powerhouse Group, with board members including Vanity Fair's Matt Tyrnauer, is determined to change the present status situation. The organization smartly recognizes that strategizing is much more enjoyable, and often effective, when over cocktails, bites and a beautiful view.
