Brother Vellies: Footwear with a Good Cause
The shoes at Brother Vellies are designed by James in Brooklyn and made in countries like South Africa, Kenya, and Morocco. Brother Vellies works to provide jobs by employing workers in African countries who hand-make the footwear using local materials and traditional techniques. Brother Vellies debuted its first ever New York Fashion Week presentation this past fall, with a SS16 collection including fabrics, leathers, and hand-carved beads sourced from countries like Mali and Ethiopia. The designer even received support for her collection with an appearance from Kanye West!
