French Macarons
The most obvious choice to succeed cupcakes as New York's favorite treat is the faintly crispy, smooth, and creamy french macaron. Not to be confused with their fuzzy cousins the coconut macaroon, these brightly colored treats are available in flavors as varied and delicious as yuzu-ginger and caramel with salted butter.
The Parisian masters of the macaron, Ladurée, opened up a shop in the Upper East Side in 2011 and boast some of the best in the city- their rose flavor actually tastes the way that flowers smell. C'est magnifique!
