Just in time for our day of Irish coffee celebrations, Starbucks has announced a new cold brew creation that tastes more like a classic Gin and Tonic than a typical morning cup o' joe.
The barrel aged beverage starts with Rwandan coffee beans, which are then hand-scooped into oak barrels that first held bourbon, and were then used to age gin by a local distillery. While it won't get you drunk (unfortunately), the coffee absorbs that alcoholic flavor, and is certainly served up like a high-end cocktail. Baristas shake it up with ice and lime bitters, and finish it off with tonic and a garnish of lime. Yum.
For now, the sparkling sip is only available at the Starbucks Reserve Roastery in Seattle, but perhaps we can start a petition to bring it nationwide?
