Mile End Deli
Where: Mile End - 97A Hoyt St. (Brooklyn Delicatessen);53 Bond Street (NoHo Sandwich Shop)
Why: You won't find monstrous Katz's and Carnegie Deli-style sandwhiches at this eatery. Owner Noah Bernamoff intentionally steered away from the old-world deli to put a contemporary spin on the traditional. According to
NYmag.com, for which Mile End is a critics' pick, this is "a deli for locavores, a deli for the next generation of deli lovers, with a respect for tradition..."
What To Get:
- Fried Green Tomato (blue cheese, radish, pickled & fresh vegetables, bialy)
- The Ruth Wilensky (beef salami, mustard, onion roll)
- BLT (bacon, tomato, escarole, chopped liver, challah)
