Lauren Wesley Wilson is an industry powerhouse with a glam streak.
As the founder and CEO of ColorComm, a nationwide network and professional platform that aims to support women of color in the fields of communications, marketing, advertising, and media, Lauren has made it her mission to uplift and empower.
Seeing as she has a natural talent for making connections and bringing people together, the boss babe shines as much on the social circuit as she does in panels, boardrooms, and C-suites across the country.
She may be a busy Queen Bee year-round, but when it comes time to treating herself and her loved ones for the holidays, you can bet she takes it as seriously as her work.
How do you celebrate the holidays?
I enjoy the holidays with countless festive lunches, parties and gatherings for a cause. I love catching up with friends with martinis and light bites at L’Avenue at Saks, and while I’m there I get in some quick Christmas shopping. The storefront at Saks is enough to get me excited for the holiday season.
Where will you be this season?
I will be in St. Thomas for Christmas this year with my family. I love doing a non-traditional Christmas. Growing up, my family would host Christmas and it was a big production every year. Three Christmas trees, countless decorations, gifts everywhere, Aunts/Uncles/Cousins, you name it. Now I enjoy being on an island, not cooking, exchanging gifts ahead of time, and getting some sun!
Are you a last-minute or way-in-advance shopper?
LAST MINUTE! But I always come through with the best gifts (what folks tell me!). I love giving and what makes any gift-giver good is to pay attention to the recipients' interests, hobbies, and activities.
What's the best gift you've ever given (or received)?
I really loved my Prada bejeweled headband. Headbands are back in style and it’s so festive and fun to wear during the holidays and winter months.
Who's the toughest to shop for on your list?
My Dad! He enjoys cigars so I often head to Davidoff’s near St. Patrick’s Cathedral to pick up a box or two. Now if he were to ever tell me that he no longer wants cigars, I would be stuck!
What's your go-to hostess gift?
Monogrammed cutting boards. We can also use more cutting boards when hosting. I like to give cutting boards that are functional and beautiful.
What's on your list to get?
Pink and yellow throw pillows from Gucci for the new couch in my office.
What's on your list to give?
Black Girl Magic Wine by the McBride Sisters, because we all need more wine during the holidays!
