In case you didn't know, Mackenzie Newcomb is the most well-heeled bookworm in town.
A pop culture pro, passionate fashionista, and resident reading list guru behind the virtual Bad Bitch Book Club, Mackenzie can be counted on for discerning recommendations from fabulous style buys to must-read new titles.
And with her penchant for bringing people together, both virtually and IRL, she obviously has the holidays on lock.
Curious what she'll be gifting this season?
Us too!
How do you celebrate the holidays?
I really love to lean into everything about this season. My outfits are red, sparkly and covered in feathers. I'm stocked up on everything peppermint from Trader Joes (the white chocolate peppermint pretzel thins - trust me). My family came to visit and we saw the Rockettes for the first time (it was delightfully cheesy). It's the time of the year where all I want to drink is champagne and all I want to do is walk around the Christmas markets with a latte (on a weekday!).
Just don't invite me to ice skate with you, I will draw the line there.
Where will you be this season?
This year I'll be ringing in the holidays with my family in Newport, Rhode Island. It's our first time spending Christmas there and I'm really excited to see all the mansions dressed up for the holidays.
Are you a last-minute or way-in-advance shopper?
I am a little bit of both. I feel passionately that food and consumable goods make the best gifts, so I buy those at the last minute. But as for the rest of my gifts? You better believe I already have them (just not wrapped).
What's the best gift you've ever given?
My sisters and I always get each other tickets for Christmas. I love this tradition because it ensures that we get to have a special moment together within the year. In the past we've gifted each other trips to Europe, Broadway shows and concert tickets. This year we'll be going to the Taylor Swift Eras tour, which we are SO excited about.
Who's the toughest to shop for on your list?
My Dad. I feel like that's going to be everyone's answer. When Dads want something, they just buy it for themselves. Don't get me wrong, I always manage to find something great for my Dad (I have a knack for discovering the biggest toys of the year for grown men) - but it's HARD.
What's your go-to hostess gift?
If it's a cocktail party, I'll bring alcohol - a bottle of Empress Gin, Cesari Amarone wine, or Taittinger champagne. If we're close, I'll bring you a book I recently finished that I know you'll love. If I'm seriously trying to impress someone, I'll bring them a tin of Petrossian caviar.
Favorite spots around town to pick up something in person?
La Maison du Chocolat - nothing ties a gift together like a bar of chocolate tucked into the ribbon. Can you tell what I prioritize in life?
What's on your list to get?
I have everything I could ever want, but I am in desperate need of some cashmere gloves.
What's on your list to give?
Unless you are my in-laws who will be decked out in Cozy Earth pajamas, you're probably getting a book. I'll be gifting Gabrielle Zevin's latest novel Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, National Book Award Winner All My Rage, or the best romance novel of the year Before I Let Go by Kennedy Ryan.
I'll be wrapping the books with ribbon and tucking that chocolate bar in them. If you're reading this and we're exchanging gifts - just act surprised!
